I take that diagram to mean that events provide input to missions, not that missions are kinds of events. If the arrows in that diagram meant "is a kind of", then you'd have to say that History "is a kind of" Hero or that Events "are a kind of" Hook, right? but maybe the devs can confirm.
I'm categorizing types of fights so that I can maybe say sensible things about how many enemies you fight in them and consequences of victory or defeat and whatnot. The kinds of battles you end up in if you follow a hook opportunity and it ends up with someone fighting you are their own kind of thing, very different from assaults or defenses or ambushes. I could call them "Opportunity" battles, but I'm not sure if opportunities are the only way to get them. Devs could weigh in, I suppose.
