Challenges are an alternate battle-focused "rogue-ish" game mode introduced with the Omenroad DLC. They are three pages long, with each page consisting of connected combat and non-combat nodes nodes, with each page ending in a boss fight. Two types of challenges are available, "Challenge" (also known as "Greenhorn Challenge"), where the player starts with new level one heroes with tier 0 gear, or "Legacy Challenge", where the player starts with legacy heroes. In both cases, the player starts with 4 heroes at the beginning of page 1 and must recruit another at the beginning of page 2. legacy heroes cannot be recruited in non-legacy challenges. Challenges always have carved in stone enabled.

The difficulty of challenges can be adjusted through peril, which strengthens enemies or causes additional hazards, and odes, which offer specific buffs to the party of heroes. Completing challenges awards renown, even if unsuccessful, which can be used to purchase odes.
