Twice per combat, as a swift action, the hero may deploy a trap that damages and pins the first enemy to step on the trap. The trap covers a 3x3 grid on the battlefield and has a deployment range of 4 tiles (3 diagonal). Trap damage seems to scale with the size and health pool of the enemy, with small low-HP foes taking less damage than large high-HP ones.
