If the hero previously encountered the Splinter event and chose to have the splinter removed, instead of having the usual Mortal Choice dialogue, the splinter will instead grow into the Elmsoul Belt augment.

The following is added to the Hero's history:
On the verge of receiving a mortal wound, the splinter they'd kept by their belt exploded free. Violently, it grew, enwrapping them, shielding them with thorny wood, and saving their life. Elms are jealous trees.
