With some themes a theme order conflict occurs in which a hero with theme A can receive theme B but a hero with theme B may not receive theme A. This is caused when themes do not conflict but the event to gain one theme cannot be triggered on a hero that has the other theme.
Theme orders can occur involving one or more of the following themes when mixed with many other themes:
Each theme order conflict case is unique and covered individually below.
Spell Touched
Spell Touched is granted to a warrior by the Worlds Apart event. Worlds Apart has a list of forbidden themes and hooks that a hero cannot have in order to be eligible for the event. However none of the themes conflict with Spell Touched meaning a hero who first receives Spell Touched will remain eligible for them and can later receive them. These themes are: Flamesoul, Mark of the Horn, Beartouched, Crowtouched, Crystalline, Elmsoul, Child of the Hills, Celestial and Shadow
Shadow is a special case because it requires the Inhabited hook in order to be obtainable but the hook is also forbidden in order to be eligible for Spell Touched so a hero must obtain the hook after spell touched through the Whispered Secrets event or the The Witchstone event.
Flamesoul
The event that gives Flamesoul, Stories of Fire, is unique in that it requires only the left arm slot to be available but will give a hero both the left arm and head from the Flamesoul theme. If a player already has a head theme they can still receive Flamesoul and will only get the left arm. This is often preferable as the Flamesoul head theme offers only a cosmetic change and blocks any theme that starts with the head. In order to combine Flamesoul with any theme that occupies the head and is not incompatible simply gain the head transformation first and then gain Flamesoul afterward.
Mortificial Enhancements
Mortificial enhancements is granted by the Troygan the Enchanger event. This event requires a hero to have a prosthetic limb that is then replaced with a Mortificial limb. However if the player has a theme that can replace a limb a maimed limb will be replaced with a theme limb instead of a prosthetic preventing the hero from being eligible for the Troygan the Enchanger event and stopping them from obtaining Mortificial Enhancements.
Skeletal
Skeletal is a unique theme that rapidly transforms the hero with no option to decline limbs. Since a hero will have full skeleton theme in a very short amount of time if a player wants one of the compatible themes it is generally advisable to get all other desired limbs before skeleton is gained.
The event that gives skeleton To Humble Ends requires the head slot to trigger. The head theme slot is used by the latent theme piece preventing the hero from obtaining any other head with skeleton.
Tails such as those given by The Merchant and wings can be obtained after skeleton as it will never fill either the wing or tail slot.
