Age of Ulstryx
Age of Ulstryx is a three-chapter campaign that serves as the tutorial/introduction to Wildermyth.
Warning: this page contains spoilers!
Introduction
The tutorial of Wildermyth. The heroes fight their first foes and unite against the Gorgons.
Spoiler |
When a farmer returns to town in the evening to tell a friend to meet up at a nearby tower with them and a third person, they find the town burning. The player chooses what kind of relationship they had with their friend. After extinguishing some of the fire, they find their friend has locked their back door against a Roe. The first hero picks up a tool while the friend grabs their bow and they soon slay the monster, becoming a warrior and hunter respectively in the process.
They then start looking for their other friend, locked up in the tower. The player chooses the hunter’s relationship with the third person. The night before they arrive at the tower, the third hero is trapped in one room of the tower by a Rager. They find an old book called “Wildermyth”, which is almost full of whimsical stories. The hero begins to write the story of their predicament, and soon feels a new power welling up inside of them. They grab a spoon or stick and test the power on the rager, which can’t fight back against the new Mystic from behind a wall. The three heroes meet outside the tower and decide to clear the monsters out. Once the heroes defeat them, they choose a company name, and, after a popup about Legacy Points, the tutorial is over. |

Chapter 1
The heroes fight the monsters living near their hometown. At the end of the chapter, the party explores a silent town and discovers the origin of the Gorgon threat.
Spoiler |
The party finds that the townspeople have all been turned to stone, and Gorgons attack the party immediately. The party finds a True Gorgon holed up in the barn. After defeating the gorgon, it takes ahold of a party member and speaks through them, name dropping Ulstryx before another party member attacks the gorgon, finally killing it. The captive is released but becomes Gorgonoid, and finds a mysterious stone called the Epicryst.
The captive gets +35 loner and -25 charisma. One party member decides to study the stone and gets +10 retirement age. |
Chapter 1 Events
Chapter 2
In the years of peace that followed, a hero studies what they found at the end of the previous chapter and determines the party's next moves. They are to find an ancient artifact before the Gorgons get to it.
Spoiler |
The hero realizes that Ulstryx is wanting to raise an army and needs some sort of divine spear as a symbol to get the other gorgons to follow it - a spear that is supposedly in a named place of their world.
There is a limited amount of time to complete this chapter. The starting time is 300 days, but clearing out Gorgon sites will add time. If the player runs out of time, the game jumps directly to the final event of the chapter, skipping the final battle. In the cavern where the spear is kept, the party runs into a Calabyne guarding the Petriglass Seaspear. The party takes the spear and they must escape the cavern through the way they entered while Gorgons continue to swarm in from another tunnel. |

Chapter 3
The region has experienced massive flooding in the interim years. An unlikely person meets with the party to discuss what's going on, and he tells the heroes to go find a particular woman, who will explain what to do. He says that the longer they delay before meeting with the woman and then defeating the Gorgons, the more their world will be flooded.
Spoiler |
Arnon, a Deepist Father Fungus, sends the party to find the den where he lives with his wife, Velda, a Murk Mother.
In this chapter, some of the tiles begin flooded, and a new tile will flood every 100 days. Flooded tiles provide no resources and movement through them is significantly slowed. Once the Deepists are freed from the Gorgons invading their home, Velda tells them that the excessive rain and snowmelt is due to Ulstryx turning Mo-Atona, the keeper of balance, into pewter. She has brewed a potion for the party to take to the petrified Mo-Atona and restore it. The final battle of the game has the heroes pushing their way through switchbacks to approach Mo-Atona. The heroes pour the elixir on the statue, but nothing happens...and then Ulstryx appears. Animals (Roe, ragers, and raccoons [needs confirmation]) will keep appearing for as long as the battle takes, so it's advised to not take too long to kill him or kill too many animals. Once Ulstryx is defeated, Mo-Atona immediately awakens, the Gorgons stop attacking, the flooded areas return to normal, and a lasting peace develops across the land. |
