Skeletal is a Theme that can be gained by a Hero from the Hook opportunity quest event To Humble Ends.
<self> is cursed by the dagger of the Oldwane mystics.
Specifics
Obtaining the Skeletal theme from hook opportunity event To Humble Ends will grant the hero Oldwane Curse and Oath of Oldwane Dagger. This theme is different from other themes in that the Oldwane curse always progresses fully during the next chapter interval and completely transforms the hero's human body. This cannot be declined.
After the curse progresses, the hero gains Eternal Unrest (+1000 retirement age, +80 loner, and -70 to healer, greedy, leader, romantic, coward, and goofball). Skeletal Body removes existing relationships and prevents the hero from forming new relationships. Locked lover/rival relationships still persist but cannot advance beyond level 1.
With Omenroad DLC, skeletal limb(s) can be obtained from a Skeletal Theme Shrine. If skeletal theme is obtained this way, it will progress similarly to other themes where an option to transform 1 part may appear during chapter Intervals. In this case, the limb transformation can be declined. Obtaining Skeletal theme from a shrine will prevent the hero from using a Relationship Shrine in Omenroad; however the hero will still be able to form relationships normally in regular story campaigns as long as they do not have Skeletal Body.
Burdened with the Oath of Oldwane, an ancient dagger filled with cloying and malevolent influence, s/he decided to use the power of the dagger for the good of others. Though s/he remained him/herself, the dagger would slowly corrupt and twist him/her over the years, estranging those who loved him/her and turning his/her body into a new and awful shape.
Changing the Hero's skin color will change this theme's base appearance, and the appearance of the "Monstrous" skin.

Theme conflicts
A Skeletal hero will not be eligible for any of these additional themes: Beartouched, Botanical, Celestial, Child of the Hills, Crystalline,Deepist Spy, Elmsoul, Flamesoul, Frogtouched, Frost, Gorgonoid, Mark of the Horn, Mortificial Enhancements, Shadow, Spell Touched, Sylvan, Vulture Acolyte, Wolftouched
If a hero has any of these themes, it is not possible to also become Skeletal: Beartouched, Botanical, Celestial, Child of the Hills, Crystalline,Deepist Spy, Elmsoul, Flamesoul, Frogtouched, Frost, Gorgonoid, Mark of the Horn, Shadow, Spell Touched, Sylvan, Vulture Acolyte, Wolftouched
Without theme slot conflicts, a Skeletal hero is still eligible for any of these additional themes: Crowtouched, Drauven Wings, Foxish, Hawksoul, Mothly, Petrified, Ratlike, Scorpioid, Skunkish, Stormtouched, Teeny Wings
Without theme slot conflicts, it is still possible for a hero with any of the following themes to also become Skeletal: Crowtouched, Drauven Wings, Foxish, Hawksoul, Mortificial Enhancements, Mothly, Petrified, Ratlike, Scorpioid, Skunkish, Stormtouched, Teeny Wings
Gallery and Skins
A fully transformed female Skeletal Mystic.
"monstrous" skin, unlocked after completing the "I'm Not Smiling" achievement
"Wrapped" skin, from Armors and Skins DLC
"Chained" skin, from Armors and Skins DLC
Tips
- Unlike with other themes there is no option to decline the transformation from Oldwane Curse and all human limbs will transform at once. This can make it difficult to combine other themes with skeleton. For more details see Theme order conflicts guide.
- A Mortificial Enhancements arm crossbow can be gained before skeleton in order to maintain the ability to make ranged attacks at the cost of the Bitter Scratch ability. Similarly a hero can also gain a Stormtouched arm or leg.
- While Skeletal only requires the head to be available, it is generally advisable to obtain the dagger and the legs.
- A hero with Skeletal Body can not form relationships but will maintain tier one lover/rival relationships that are locked before becoming skeletal. For this reason it is suggested to lock friendship relationships before becoming skeletal.
- Skeleton can be very powerful for Hunters with Thornfang as the theme provides the most powerful dagger attack.
- For Skeleton Hunters, a Scorpioid Tail is suggested to gain a longer ranged melee attack as well. Potency from Skeleton theme helps to power up the tail stab.
- A full Skeleton transformation is not suggested on Warriors as the limited attack range works against them.
- A Mystic with Skeleton dagger gains a boost to interfusion attack damage equivalent to a tier three wand but lacks the ability to gain elemental stunt effects.
